Now in Progress: Pennsylvania and Philadelphia 2010 Tax Amnesty Programs

The Pennsylvania and Philadelphia 2010 Tax Amnesty programs have commenced, giving taxpayers a unique opportunity to pay back taxes and file prior year returns.  During each program, the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia will waive all penalties and half of the interest due on any delinquent tax liability as of June 30, 2009.  Taxpayers participating in the program must file all delinquent tax returns and pay all taxes and half of the interest due during the amnesty period.

State of Pennsylvania Tax Amnesty Program

The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue has mailed more than one million notices to businesses and individuals that have delinquent tax accounts according to the records of the Department of Revenue.  Already thousands have applied for the Pennsylvania tax amnesty program, which will run until June 18, 2010.  However, long waits to talk to Department of Revenue representatives and taxpayers receiving notices when they owe no money are already plaguing the amnesty program.  If you have received a notice from Pennsylvania, we strongly encourage you to contact Drucker & Scaccetti as soon as possible to determine how to proceed.

All taxes administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue are eligible for the tax amnesty program, including Philadelphia Sales and Use Tax.  The program does not include the Unemployment Compensation Tax which is administered by Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry.

City of Philadelphia Tax Amnesty Program

The Philadelphia Department of Revenue has started to accept applications for the tax amnesty program, which will run until June 25, 2010.  Unlike the Pennsylvania amnesty program, the Philadelphia Department of Revenue will not be mailing notices to taxpayers.

All taxes administered by the Philadelphia Department of Revenue are eligible for the tax amnesty program.  This does not include Philadelphia Sales and Use Tax, which is administered and available for amnesty through the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.
