IRS Announces 2010 Standard Mileage Rates

In IR-2009-111, released December 3, 2009, the IRS issued the 2010 standard mileage rates. Beginning on January 1, 2010, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car will be:

50 cents per mile for business miles driven

16.5 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes

14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations

If a taxpayer uses the standard mileage rate for 2010, actual costs of using their vehicle for that year may not be deducted.  However, parking fees and tolls for the year that are attributable to business, medical, moving, or charitable purposes may be deducted in addition to using the standard mileage rate.
